All members of the West Carrollton High School Marching band MUST attend
Band Camp. This year, we are going to an “away” camp at the University of Rio Grande
in Rio Grande, Ohio. (Southeastern Ohio, near Gallipolis) Band Camp is a very
rewarding experience that students will remember for years to come.
At Band Camp, the Marching Band learns many routines, drill and music. It is
hard work. At the same time, there are activities to break up the day that are fun for the
entire group. All members of the Marching Band are required to attend all rehearsals
and activities while at Band Camp. Band Camp ($200) and all previously owed fees
must be paid on or before Wednesday, July 22, 2009 to continue participating in
Marching Band. There is no time to deal with money issues at the last minute on the
day we leave for Band Camp. We leave for Band Camp at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday,
July 26, 2009 from WCHS. Please report no later than 10:00 a.m. to load instruments,
luggage and gear, then board the bus(es). *Please refer to fee schedule on web site.
BAND CAMP FACILITIES
AND ACTIVITIES
Students will room in air conditioned dormitories on the campus of the University
of Rio Grande. All rehearsals and activities take place on the campus. Students are, under
ANY circumstances, NOT to leave the campus or be separated from the group for any
reason. The Marching Band Staff and parents attending to chaperone supervise all meals,
rehearsals, activities and in the dormitories
Included in this packet is a ample schedule that outlines the daily activities. This
is subject to change according to meal times given, weather, etc. Proposed evening band
activities will include but not be limited to a general meeting, a pool party, a dance/social
night, a pizza party and a candlelight ceremony inducting new members and honoring the
seniors.
MEALS
All meals are served in the air-conditioned Rio Grande student cafeteria and all
three meals are buffet style. There are always many choices at every meal for students to
enjoy and all are encouraged to go back for seconds and thirds as they desire. All students
need to eat at EVERY meal at Band Camp as the students and staff work hard and need
their nutrition. Band Camp is NOT the time to go on a diet. The Marching Band Staff and
student leaders try to ensure all students eat sufficiently at every meal.
MEDICATIONS
Students who take daily medications will need to check them in with our staff. It
is the student’s responsibility to get the medications at the appropriate time. This includes
ALL medications, even aspirin, etc. Students will need to have a medication release form
for EACH medication taken. For example, if you take 4 medications, you need 4 forms.

Grande has its own set of rules that must be followed.
NO harassment, hazing, bullying, fighting or intimidation is tolerated at Band
Camp at ANY time for ANY reason by ANY band member. It is, in fact, ILLEGAL.
Students violating this rule will be removed at once and sent home to face disciplinary
action from the school.
Appropriate behavior is required at ALL times with the Band. Band members
